Salukis face Indiana State, Evansville in final two home games

 The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (9-16) will play its final two home games of the regular season on Thursday against Indiana State (10-15) and Saturday against Evansville (11-14) on Senior Day.


HOW TO WATCH/LISTEN

  • Thursday's game between the Salukis and Sycamores will be broadcasted on ESPN+ at 6 p.m. with Dominic Hoscher (play-by-play) and Mike Trude (analyst) on the call. The game will also be on the radio on 95.1 Steve FM with Trey Reamer doing play-by-play.
  • The final home game of the season for SIU will take place on Saturday at 2 p.m. on ESPN3. Hoscher and Trude will have the television call, while Reamer will be on the mic once again on 95.1 Steve FM. 
QUICK HITS

  • The Salukis hold a record of 9-16 overall and 6-10 in Missouri Valley Conference play. At home, SIU is 4-9 this season.
  • Heading into its final two home games of the year, Southern Illinois is in ninth place in the Valley and is one of three teams to have a 6-10 conference record (Murray State and Evansville). 
  • SIU is one game back of UIC, who is currently in sixth place with a 7-9 record in league play.
  • In their last game, the Salukis fell to Murray State, 83-69, on Sunday, Feb. 19. Ashley Jones paced the Salukis with 26 points in the loss.
  • Jones and Promise Taylor will be honored prior to tip-off on Senior Day on Saturday. Jones is the team's leader in scoring and is second in assists, while Taylor leads the team in blocks and is second in rebounding.
  • Sunday's loss against the Racers snapped a four-game streak of scoring 70+ points for the Salukis. SIU is 8-6 this season when reaching the 70-point plateau. 
  • Southern Illinois is third in the conference in scoring, averaging 72.1 points-per-game. On the defensive end, SIU is giving up 75.0 points-per-contest.
  • No team in the Valley is averaging more steals-per-game than SIU (10.0). The average is tied for 31st in the country.
  • SIU is third in the MVC and 35th in the nation in blocks-per-game (4.4). 
  • Southern's 2.9 turnover margin ranks second in the conference and 69th in the NCAA.
  • Only Missouri State is averaging more offensive rebounds-per-game than the Salukis (12.1). 
LEADING THE SALUKIS

  • Ashley Jones' 17.0 points-per-game lead the team and are fourth in the Valley. Jones is also second on the team in assists-per-game (3.7).
  • On Friday, Feb. 17, Jones reached the 1,000-point mark for her collegiate career. 
  • Promise Taylor is first in the conference and seventh in the nation in blocks-per-game (2.8). Taylor has had a block in 15 straight games, and multiple blocks in 17 games this season. 
  • Quierra Love leads the team in assists, averaging 4.0 assists-per-game, which rank fifth in the conference. Love's 2.4 assist/turnover ratio is 25th in the nation.
  • Love and Jaidynn Mason are both top five in the Valley in steals-per-game. Love is third (2.0) while Mason is fourth (1.8). 
  • Laniah Randle leads the team in rebounding, tallying 6.4 rebounds-per-contest.
LOOKING AT INDIANA STATE

  • The Sycamores come into Carbondale with a 10-15 overall record and 5-11 MVC record. 
  • Indiana State has lost three straight games, and is 2-6 in its last eight games. 
  • The Sycamores currently sit in 10th place in the Valley, and are 1.0 game back of Murray State, Evansville, and SIU. 
  • In its last game, Indiana State lost to UIC, 56-50, at home on Sunday, Feb. 19. The Sycamores have scored 50 points or less in back-to-back games for the first time this season.
  • Bella Finnegan led the team in scoring in the loss, tallying 17 points on 3-of-6 shooting from deep.
  • Indiana State is averaging 62.7 points-per-game, which ranks ninth in the Valley. Defensively, ISU is allowing 65.3 points-per-contest.
  • Del'Janae Williams is averaging a team-high 13.3 points-per-game this season.
  • SIU is 56-45 all-time against the Sycamores, and won its most recent matchup on Dec. 31 by a final score of 60-58. Shemera Williams was Southern's leading scorer in the win with 13 points, while Del'Janae Williams led the Sycamores with 16 points.
LOOKING AT EVANSVILLE

  • The Purple Aces are 11-14 overall and 6-10 in conference play heading into the week. 
  • Evansville is 1-5 in its last six games, with its lone win coming against UIC on Feb. 17 (68-65).
  • The Purple Aces enter the week in eighth place, holding the same MVC record as both Southern Illinois and Murray State.
  • Evansville lost to Valparaiso by a final score of 74-68 in its last game on Sunday, Feb. 19. Valpo out-scored the Purple Aces, 21-13, in the fourth quarter. Abby Feit led the team in scoring in the loss, posting 20 points on 8-of-19 shooting from the field to go along with 11 rebounds. 
  • The Purple Aces' average of 64.8 points-per-game is eighth in the conference.
  • At 71%, Evansville ranks fourth in the Valley in free throw shooting. 
  • Feit is the team's leading scorer, averaging 15.5 points-per-game this season.
  • The Salukis are 39-28 all-time against the Purple Aces and have won 11-straight meetings. The last time the two sides met was on Dec. 29, when SIU won by a final score of 86-77. Jones' 23 points led the way for the Salukis in the win, while Myia Clark led all Evansville scorers with 25 points.
