Women’s Bowling Secures Title at Mid-Winter Invitational, Gramly Earns All-Tournament Honors

McKendree University women's bowling went 9-2 at the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State University this past weekend to clinch first place out of 17 teams. The No.1-ranked Bearcats improve to 84-16 overall following the three-day event in Jonesboro, Ark.

McKendree showed a solid performance on day one in the Baker matches, grabbing three out of four wins and receiving a bye for the third round of pool play. To kick off the event, McKendree ousted No.3 Nebraska 1,102-862 and Alabama A&M 1,102-881. The Bearcats fell to No.7 Wisconsin-Whitewater by just 22 pins before bouncing back with a 1,040-972 victory over No.5 Stephen F. Austin to seal the top spot with a total pinfall of 5,367.

In traditional play, the Bearcats began 0-1 with a 1,143-1,061 loss to No.12 Louisiana Tech, but were not slowed down for long as they won the last four consecutive games of day two. McKendree took down No.7 Maryville (1,169-1,001), Tusculum (1,005-956), No.17 Central Missouri, and Kentucky Wesleyan (1,013-959) to keep the top seed heading into Sunday's bracket.

McKendree met Louisiana Tech again in the first round of the bracket as Louisiana Tech sealed the second seed just 41 pins behind the Bearcats. McKendree would not be beaten a second time by Louisiana Tech as the Bearcats took the victory 4-1 in the first round and received a bye in the second round.

Louisiana Tech climbed back to the championship from the third-place bracket to meet the reigning NCAA champions once again. McKendree posted another 4-1 over Louisiana Tech to earn first place in the invitational.

In individual standings, three Bearcats finished in the top 10 for the invitational. Graduate student Hope Gramly took fifth overall, averaging 223.8 pins per game and capturing a spot on the All-Tournament team. Senior Maranda Pattison finished sixth just behind Gramly with 223.4 pins per game while junior Isabel Allen secured seventh with a 222.8-pin average.

Coming up, McKendree will compete in the Columbia 300 Music City Classic in Smyrna, Tenn. on March 17-19 at the Smyrna Bowling Center.
