Women's Bowling Wins Stormin' Flyer Classic, Pattison Finishes Third Overall

McKendree University women's bowling claimed the title at the Stormin' Flyer Classic hosted by Lewis University in Lockport, Ill. The Bearcats went 9-1 in Baker and traditional play before sweeping bracket play to secure the championship.

The Bearcats opened the three-day event with five wins in their Baker matches, defeating Carthage College (966-877), Belmont Abbey College (1,089-807), Quincy (1,037-847), Central Missouri (1,083-1,018), and North Central (1,028-831). With a total pinfall of 5,203, McKendree stood in first after day one of competition.

In traditional matches, McKendree added four more wins against Augstana (933-957), Carroll (1,058-791), Marian (1,038-794), and Newman (1,085-1,049). The Bearcats' only loss came against Maryville in traditional play as they fell to the Saints 986-959. Combined with its Baker pinfall, McKendree totaled 10,276 pins across the first two days to claim the No. 1 seed for the final bracket.

On Sunday, McKendree faced second-seeded Maryville, taking the win 4-0. The Bearcats played the second round against Illinois Wesleyan, though this matchup would not affect McKendree's bid to the championship round. After posting a 4-0 win over Illinois Wesleyan, McKendree would meet Maryville once again in the championship game.

The Saints jumped to a 2-0 lead, but the Bearcats bounced back with four straight wins to earn first place.

Three Bearcats finished in the top 20 individually as McKendree was led by senior Maranda Pattison who finished third and earned All-Tournament team for the event. Pattison tallied a total pinfall of 1,063, averaging 212.6 pins per game. Graduate student Hope Gramly claimed ninth while junior Isabel Allen took 17th overall.

McKendree will be back in action this coming weekend at the Mid-Winter Invitational hosted by Arkansas State in Jonesboro, Ark.
