Rachel Anderson Picks up Victory, Salukis Compete in Nashville

The Southern Illinois Track & Field Team traveled to Nashville for the Music City Challenge this weekend.

Rachel Anderson brought home the only first place finish for the Salukis. Finishing first in the Women 3000M Run with a time of 9:43.41. 

"We have competed well throughout the course of the season and Vanderbilt was a great showing as expected for the Salukis," said Director of Track and Field & Cross Country Richard Jones. "Some top finishes and great conference representation."

Coming off winning Missouri Valley Conference Field Athlete of the Week Shauniece O'Neal built on her strong indoor season. She finished in 5th place in the Women's Weight Throw with a final mark of 22.37M. 

Iaunia Pointer continued her impressive indoor season with two top 4 finishes in Nashville. In the Women's 200M Dash she finished in 3rd place with a time of 24.17. She finished 4th in the Women's unseeded 400M Dash running a time of 56.08. 

On the men's side, Dawson Plab finished 2nd In the Men's High Jump, jumping a height of 2.10M. 

Xavier Preston also had a top 5 finish for the Saluki men. He ran a 21.47 in the Men's 200M Dash to finish 5th.

The Salukis will host the Don DeNoon Invite this weekend. This will be the final meet before the MVC Championships. 

"Our home meet this upcoming weekend isn't as intense as previous meets but still just as important as we prepare for conference from this point on," said Jones.
