Salukis earn road win at Bradley

The Southern Illinois University women's basketball team (9-14) got back-on-track with a 83-59 win at Bradley (3-22) on Sunday in Peoria.

The 83 points are the most the Salukis have scored in a game since Jan. 5, where they also scored 83 points in a 83-65 win at home against Bradley. On the defensive side, the 59 points allowed are the fewest SIU has given up since Jan. 7 vs. Illinois State in a 59-56 loss against the Redbirds.

The Salukis scored 19 points in each of the first two quarters, leading 38-31 at the end of the first half. SIU shot 44.4% from the field in the opening half, with Ashley Jones' 13 points leading the way.

Promise Taylor had eight points, four rebounds, and four blocks in just the first half.

After out-scoring the Braves by just one point in the third quarter, the Salukis tallied a big fourth where they out-scored Bradley, 28-12.

Southern Illinois shot a game-best 61.1% from the field in the final quarter, while also limiting Bradley to 35.7% shooting.

Jones scored a game-high 24 points in the win, while Taylor dropped her first double-double as a Saluki (17 points, 11 rebounds). Shemera Williams was also in double-figures, scoring 13 points on 3-of-8 shooting.

The Salukis improve to 9-14 overall and 6-8 in conference play. SIU will return home for a four-game homestand on Friday, Feb. 17, when it hosts Belmont at 6 p.m.
