Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education met Oct. 11.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER 

At 6:00 p.m. President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education. 

Roll Call 

Members present: Leah Conover, Kevin Marren, Laura Coyle, Carlos Hevia, Angela Steketee, Adina Hoover 

Members absent: Jessica Radogno 

Also present: Superintendent Kevin Carey, Business Manager Anthony Ruelli, and the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant, Shannon Cossairt. 

Pledge of Allegiance 

Adina Hoover led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance. 

CLOSED SESSION 

Motion by Ms. Coyle, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues, collective bargaining, and student discipline. 

Ayes: Coyle, Marren, Conover, Steketee, Hevia, Hoover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

The Board entered closed session at 6:01 p.m. 

The Board returned to open session at 6:46 p.m. 

APPROVAL OF MINUTES 

September 27, 2022 

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr. Hevia. to approve the minutes of the September 27, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented. 

Ayes: Coyle, Marren, Conover, Steketee, Hevia, Hoover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

September 27, 2022 Closed Session 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Steketee, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the September 27, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Education. 

Ayes: Coyle, Marren, Conover, Steketee, Hevia, Hoover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

PUBLIC COMMENT 

None at this time. 

CONSENT AGENDA 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.

2. Approval of iBoss Security Contract 

Ayes: Marren, Conover, Steketee, Hevia, Hoover, Coyle 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried. 

INFORMATION/DISCUSSION 

Athletic Bus Purchase 

Anthony Ruelli, CSBO, gave the Board an update on the athletic bus. Currently the athletic bus owned by the District is from 2006. On September 23, 2022, the District held a bid opening; the District received one bid from Central Busing, which is also the state contractor. With Central Busing the District could have the option to lease with the option to buy, or to purchase the bus. The cost of the bus is budgeted for this fiscal year. The athletic bus will be presented at the October 25, 2022 meeting for approval. 

Parent Teacher Conferences 

In the fall of 2020 the District switched to virtual conferences due to the pandemic. Superintendent Carey has heard from staff and parents they would like to have in person conferences. After the conferences this fall Superintendent Carey would like to get some feedback and bring it back to the Board to review. One of the considerations would be for a hybrid model, which would give families an opportunity to choose. 

2023-2024 Calendar 

The Calendar Committee met in October to discuss the calendar for the 2023-2024 school year. They are presenting two options at the meeting tonight for the Board to review. The Board has requested some more information regarding the dates chosen for the start date of school. The calendar will be presented again for discussion and approval at the October 25, 2022 meeting. 

ACTION ITEMS 

Authorization for Chief School Business Official to Enter into Future Pricing Contracts with Vanguard Energy Services. 

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Ms. Conover, to authorize the Chief School Business Official to enter into future energy contracts through June 2023 for natural gas and electricity with Vanguard Energy Services as needed. 

Ayes: Conover, Steketee, Hevia, Hoover, Coyle, Marren 

Nays: None 

Motion Carried. 

Approval of Resolution to Permanently Transfer Funds from O&M Fund to Capital Projects Fund 

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the resolution permanently transferring $5,706,452.80 from the Operations and Maintenance Fund to the Capital Projects Fund, as presented. 

Ayes: Steketee, Hevia, Hooer, Coyle, Marren, Conover 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

Authorization for Submission of the State of Illinois FY2023 School Maintenance Grant 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Conover, to authorize the submission of the state of Illinois FY23 School Maintenance Project Grant Application, as presented. 

Ayes: Hevia, Hoover, Coyle, Marren, Conover, Steketee 

Nays: None. 

Motion Carried. 

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT 

Communications 

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 20 and October 21, 2022. Parents can register through October 19, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. Conferences will be held virtually. 

FOIA 

None at this time. 

Alliance Legislative Update 

None at this time. 

Update on Meeting Minutes/Agendas/Curriculum

BOARD REPORTS 

Leah Conover would like to thank the District in being creative. The District has hired a Dean's Assistant. This individual will be acting as a crossing guard, while the current crossing guard is unavailable to work. 

Adina Hoover would like to give a shout out to the bands from Westmont High School and Westmont Junior High School for their performance at the Homecoming game and parade. She would also like to commend the football team for their effort and showing up to play for their team and their school. 

Laura Coyle would like to thank Mr. and Mrs. Schuette for sponsoring the firework display at the homecoming game.
