In a Facebook post put out on October 23, Sen. Terri Bryant of the Illinois General Assembly talked about her experience at the 2022 Freedom Banquet located in Carbondale.
The post read: "Great evening at the 2022 NAACP Freedom Banquet, Carbondale, Illinois. This year my friend Marilyn Tipton was honored."
Bryant was elected in a June 28, 2022 election when she ran unopposed and now serves District 58 in Illinois. Since then, she has represented her constituents and attended as many events as possible to learn about those she represents.
The NAACP banquet located at the Carbondale Civic Center had a dinner, a message from Ron Bullock, and a ceremony honoring Marilyn Tipton for her contribution to the community. Bullock is the president and CEO of Fresh Perspectives, a large company in the district of Bryant.
The main theme of the event was "Lift Every Voice". The event was sold out quickly when tickets were offered. It was the first public gathering of the Carbondale branch of the NAACP in over 2 years. Attendance and enthusiasm were robust.
The event was the latest in a long string of events that Bryant has attended lately in her efforts to do more outreach.
