Massac Memorial Hospital will soon provide high-quality health care to local communities using its new mobile health unit.

The unit, called “Massac Mobile Health,” has two exam rooms and will initially offer COVID-19 testing and education. However, Massac Memorial CEO Lennis Thompson plans to eventually expand its use and provide primary care services.

“The mobile health unit is part of Massac Memorial Hospital’s mission to make health care more accessible in the region,” he says. “Our motto is ‘Compassionate care … close to home,’ and this mobile clinic will help us fulfill that promise like never before.”

The unit was funded through the Rural Health Clinic COVID-19 Testing Program, which promotes access to coronavirus testing and mitigation activities in rural communities.

After the first of the year, Massac Memorial plans to offer primary care services to communities utilizing the mobile health unit. At that time, the unit will operate on a set schedule and be staffed by an advance practice practitioner and a nurse.
