VANDALIA COMMUNITY MEETING
WELCOME
President George Evans opened a community meeting at 11:55 a.m., at the Vandalia Education Center. Trustee Louis Kalert was in attendance.
Kaskaskia College employees in attendance included President Evans, Julie Obermark, Amy Troutt, Cheryl Boehne, Kelsey Tate, Travis Henson, Tommy Henegar, Kellie Henegar, Cary Day, Alan Boerngen, Colton Leidner, Wendy Blythe, Shara Smith, and Karol Potter.
Community members in attendance included Sandy Michel, Donna Ruble, Laura Benhoff, Marilyn Truitt, Alec Hise, Walt Barenfanger, Dale Timmermann, Heidi Cade, Joe Schaal, Todd Stapleton, Kim Shanks, Rick Radliff, Jack Johnston, Ty Bates, Tara Hall, Trent Carlson, Leah Williams, David Dyer, and Ricky Gottman.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
President Evans led in the Pledge of Allegiance.
INTRODUCTIONS
President Evans introduced Trustees Louis Kalert and Linda Stover and welcomed everyone. Those in attendance introduced themselves.
STATUS OF KASKASKIA COLLEGE UPDATE
President Evans led open discussions regarding the post COVID-19 environment; presented a snapshot on enrollment at Kaskaskia College for the past two years compared to pre-pandemic enrollment numbers; shared an update on the Campus Modernization Projects; and pointed out highlights in the 2021-22 President’s Report that was distributed at the meeting.
WORKFORCE EQUITY INITIATIVE (WEI) OVERVIEW AND UPDATE
Cheryl Boehne presented an update on the Workforce Equity Initiative grant.
KC NOW PROGRAM AND UPDATE
Kelsey Tate presented the KC Now Program.
8TH GRADE CAREER EXPLORATION EVENTS/CAREER PATHWAYS
Kelsey Tate introduced the attendees the 8th Grade Career Exploration Events being offered to junior high schools in the district.
NO EXCUSES/NO BARRIERS CAMPAIGN UPDATE
Travis Henson provided an update on the “No Excuses. No Barriers” campaign. The College hosted “KC Explore Day” on April 1, 2022 where over 500 local high school students and their parents and community members visited the Main Campus.
STRENGTHS, WEAKNESSES, OPPORTUNITIES AND THREATS (SWOT) FEEDBACK FOR 2023 KASKASKIA COLLEGE STRATEGIC PLAN
President Evans introduced Janet Fontenot, Assessment Coordinator for Kaskaskia College. Janet updated community members on the status of the current Strategic Plan and the planning efforts underway to develop the next Strategic Plan which becomes effective July 1, 2023. As part of the planning process, the College has been conducting SWOT analyses. “SWOT” is an acronym for “Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats”. The feedback received in a SWOT analysis is used for planning purposes.
The College is looking for feedback from external stakeholders. Janet opened the discussions to the attendees of the meeting to provide feedback on what they see are the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and/or threats to the College. Janet asked attendees to share any information related to possible business closures, new companies moving into the area, training needs of local industries, areas where the College could partner with local businesses, etc. Janet thanked the attendees for their feedback and encouraged everyone to complete the survey at the link provided.
