Rep. Paul Jacobs will host “Night at the Ballpark” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday at the Rent One Ball Park in Marion, Ill.
“I am proud to be sponsoring a summer reading program for students in the 115th district in first through fourth grades,” Jacobs said.
Jacobs has been actively engaging in his community as the November general elections are four months away.
Jacobs’ “Once Upon a Time” summer reading club challenges 1st through 4th graders to read 8 books during their summer break. Books for local library programs are also acceptable and books over 150 pages may count for 2 books.
Ballotpedia wrote that Jacobs is on the ballot to represent the state’s 118th district uncontested. He claimed victory over candidate Aaron Smith in the June primary election.
Completed forms, signed by a parent who has verified the youth's reading, were due back to Jacobs' office by July 22.
Students who read eight books over the summer will receive an official Illinois House of Representatives Certificate of Recognition, a coupon for a free custard from Culver’s, a free Krispy Kreme donut, and two free tickets to the opening game of the Colt League World Series on July 29 for a special night celebrating summer readers.
Jacobs wrote on his website that he and Sen. Terri Bryant will host a senior health fair from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Rolland Lewis Building in Mt. Vernon.
“Senior citizens who attend can have their blood pressure checked, pick up useful information from healthcare and elder care providers, check for unclaimed property that the state may be holding for them, and enjoy coffee, donuts and fruit free of charge,” Jacobs said on his website.
Completed forms can be mailed to Jacobs at 206 West College, Suite 22, Carbondale, Ill., 62901, or email a scanned completed copy to Jacobs@ILHouseGOP.org.
