The McKendree University men's and women's swimming and diving programs each earned Scholar All-America status from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) for the Spring 2022 semester by the organization on Monday afternoon.
McKendree, which is coached by Jimmy Tierney, was two of 731 teams from 441 schools in all divisions and all levels (NCAA, NAIA and NJCAA) to receive the Scholar-All-America honor by the CSCAA. Team were selected for the award based on this past spring semesters grade point averages and a total of 17,485 student-athletes.
Along with a total of 441 schools selected, McKendree was one of 52 NCAA Division II schools that had both their men's and women's teams recognized and one of nine schools from the Great Lakes Valley Conference that had teams honored. The other GLVC schools with both their men's and women's teams honored were Drury, Indianapolis, Lewis, Lindenwood, Maryville, Truman State, UMSL and William Jewell. Additionally, Missouri S&T was recognized on the men's side.
During the recently completed 2022 spring semester, the Bearcat men compiled a 3.26 cumulative GPA, while the Bearcat women posted a 3.46 GPA. The 3.26 posted by the Bearcat men was tied for the fifth highest among GLVC schools.
McKendree's men's and women's swimming and diving teams were also recognized as CSCAA Scholar-All America Teams during the 2021 fall semester.
Roberts Wesleyan (3.66) and Fairmont State (3.84) topped all Division II men's and women's teams respectively. The highest team GPA's came from Division III programs as the Caltech men and the Pacific Lutheran women are the top overall programs with GPA's of 3.85 each.
Founded in 1922, the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America is the nation's first organization of college coaches. The mission of the CSCAA is to advance the sport of swimming and diving with coaches at the epicenter of leadership, advocacy, and professional development.
