Several members of the women's track and field team concluded their season with their final chance at qualification for the NCAA Division III national meet. GU had four athletes competing at Augustana on Thursday afternoon that entered several events.
Tawny Rodriguez threw in the discus competition where she was third overall with an attempt of 43.15 meters (141 feet-7 inches). The mark gave her the 23rd best attempt in the NCAA and set a lifetime best. Rodriguez also entered the shot put where her attempt of 12.70 meters (41-8) was ninth.
Olivia Mansfield ran in the 800 and finished 13th in 2:18.98. The time was also a personal best.
Sara Yakana had an effort of 10.80 meters (35-5.25) in the triple jump, also finishing 13th. She also leapt in the long jump where she was 19th with a mark of 4.71 meters (15-5.5).
Aaliyah Vasquez also entered the long jump where she was 16th at 4.99 meters (16-4.5). She also ran in the 100 meter hurdles, clocking a time of 16.76 seconds for 17th overall.
The Panthers will now send Cayden Sharp to the NCAA Division III national championships in the heptathlon for the second straight year with the eighth best total in the nation. At the NCCAA national championships, Sharp posted a total score of 4595 to qualify her for the D-III championships.
