Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education met Feb. 17.

Here are the minutes provided by the board:

CALL TO ORDER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

At 6:00 p.m., President Coyle called to order the special meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education and led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

ROLL CALL

Members present: Kevin Marren, Adina Hoover, Angela Steketee, Laura Coyle, Jessica Radogno, Carlos Hevia, Leah Conover

Also present: Superintendent Kevin Carey, Business Manager Kimberly Anderson: Jeff Goelitz, Attorney with Hodges and Loizzi, and the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant Shannon Cossairt.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Public comment was given by Susannah Morano, Gabrielle Baratta, Melanie Sleeper, Dan Siebold, Adina Hoover, Rae Fitch, Stephen Fleck, and George Welson.

DISCUSSION/INFORMATION CUSD 201 Mitigation Planning

Superintendent Carey gave a presentation to the Board. The presentation covered the following topics:

• Guiding Principles

• CUSD 2021-2022 School Opening

• Why Mask Mandate

• Mask Mandate Lifted

• CDC Transmission Levels

• What has changed? 

• Current Mitigations in Place

• DuPage County Health Department

• Updating CUSD 201 Mitigation Plan

• Phased Masking Definitions Phased Masking Metrics - Percentage of positive cases in a week 

• Phased Masking Metrics - Applied to our Schools

• Phased Masking Metrics - Week ending February 11

• Recommendation

Superintendent Carey recommends the new mitigations go into effect on February 28, 2022. Superintendent Carey shared with the Board that the plan has been discussed with the WTA and they agree with the plan, but an MOU may have to be done. He also shared with the Board feedback he has received from the DuPage County Health Department regarding their metrics and schools.

The Board had a discussion over the challenge's teachers may face with Situational Masking. They would like feedback regarding Situational Masking and how the new mitigation plan is working

The Board did discuss and inquire about the percentages the District would be using and if they should be adjusted. They would also like the numbers to reflect building staff.

Attorney, Jeff Goelitz, answered questions from the Board regarding the ruling in Sangamon County and how it applies to our District. They asked him questions regarding the plan the District would be putting in place.

ACTION ITEM 

Approval of Updated CUSD 201 Mitigation Plan

Motion by Ms. Conover, second by Mr. Hevia, to amend the 2021-2022 return to school plan approved on August 3, 2021 to include updated mitigations.

Ayes: Hevia, Radogno, Steketee, Conover, Hoover, Marren, Coyle

Nays: None.

Motion carried.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Ms. Hoover, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues

Ayes: Radogno, Steketee, Conover, Hoover, Marren, Coyle, Hevia

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 8:01 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 8:41 p.m.

ADJOURNMENT

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to adjourn the February 17, 2022, special meeting of the Board of Education at 8:44 p.m.
