Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education met Feb. 8.

Minutes of the Regular Meeting of the Board of Education

CALL TO ORDER

At 6:00 p.m. Vice President Hoover called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

ROLL CALL 

Members present: Carlos Hevia, Jessica Radogno, Anglea Steketee, Kevin Marren, Leah Conover, Adina Hoover

Members absent: Laura Coyle

Also present: Superintendent Kevin Carey, Business Manager Kimberly Anderson, and the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance

Adina Hoover led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Ms. Steketee, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues.

Ayes: Marren, Steketee, Hoover, Radogno, Conover, Hevia

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 6:01 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 6:40 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES January 25, 2022 

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Mr. Hevia, to approve the minutes of the January 25, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Marren, Steketee, Hoover, Radogno, Conover, Hevia

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

January 25, 2022 Closed Session

Motion by Mr. Marren, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the January 25, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Education.

Ayes: Marren, Steketee, Hoover, Radogno, Conover, Hevia

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Public Comment was given by the following community members: Veronica Barrett and Whitney Rogers.

The Board took a brief break to give visitors time to mask in accordance with the masking guidelines for Village Hall.

Public comment continued with the following community members: Joanna Dubiel, Julie Williams and Stephen Fleck.

Public comment continued and the following community members spoke: Dan Siebold, Andrea Haeg, Bill Rogalla, and Julie Williams.

CONSENT AGENDA

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the Consent Agenda as presented.

Nays: None

Motion Carried.

DISCUSSION AND

INFORMATION Update on Summer School

Superintendent Carey shared with the Board an update on 2022 Summer School. Summer school at this time is scheduled to be June 6 -23, 2022. Most classes will be four days a week for three weeks. Elementary and junior high will be need based and be by invitation only. The junior high will also host a step up to 6th grade. The high school will offer Credit Recovery, enrichment and support courses.

Update on the 2021-2022 School Year

Superintendent Carey presented to the Board an update on the

2021-2022 school year. He reviewed the following:

• Guiding Principles

• DuPage County

• Local Positivity Rates

• New Cases per 100,000 

• Staff Covid-19 Data

• Student Attendance Data – August 16- October 21

• Student Vaccination Status

• CDC Transmission Levels

• Updated CDC, DPH, ISBE Guidance

• If a School District Defies the Executive order...

• Reminders Testing

• Sangamon County Lawsuits

• Why is CUSD 201 still requiring masks?

• Mask Mandate Lifted

Superintendent Carey and the Board discussed the metrics the District set in place prior to the Governor's Executive Order. They would like some information from the DuPage County Health Department regarding the recommended guidance and if it will be changing. The Board agrees they should have a special meeting next week, to review the metrics which were created at the opening of school. The Board would like to have a timeline for the District to move towards mask optional.

2022-2023 School Year

This discussion has been tabled until the February 22, 2022 meeting

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT 

Communications

Superintendent Carey shared with the Board that the last day of school at this time is set for May 31, 2022. This is due to the emergency day used on February 2, 2022. This is subject to change based on the use of future emergency days.

FOIA requests have been attached to BoardDocs for the Board to review. 

Alliance Legislative Update

None at this time.

Update on Meeting Minutes/Agendas/Curriculum

None at this time.

BOARD REPORTS

Leah Conover attended SASED Board meetings. She shared with the Board an update on some of the changes SASED has been going through.

Public Comment was given by Dan Siebold and George Welson.

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Ms. Steketee, to adjourn the February 8, 2022, regular meeting of the Board of Education at 8:53 p.m.
