In a Facebook post on March 7, Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Harrisburg) celebrated Casimir Pulaski.

"Today we celebrate the achievements of Casimir Pulaski, a Polish nobleman who became a brigadier general in the Continental Army during the American Revolutionary War. Happy Casimir Pulaski Day!" Windhorst posted on Facebook. He included a link to learn more

The Polish Museum of America hosted an event on March 7 to honor Pulaski. "He came here as a volunteer. He fought with the American colonists against British oppression and these are things we need to remember about him going forward," said James Robaczewski, chairman of the Polish Museum of America.

According to the Washington Library website, Pulaski was born in Poland in 1745, the son of a founder of the Confederation of Bar. When Pulaski was 26, he attempted to kidnap the Polish king and was falsely accused of an attempted assassination. He had to leave Poland the next year and go to France. In 1776, he left for the United States, where he first fought in the Battle of Brandywine on Sept. 11, 1777.

Schools in Springfield, Mount Pulaski school district, and the Capital Area Career Center were closed to honor Pulaski.
