Calling the last week the busiest of the spring session, state Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Metropolis) gave his constituents a look at what happened so far during the spring session and what lies ahead as part of his online weekly review.
"Multiple pieces of legislation have moved from the 2nd to 3rd reading, and some measures have already advanced to the Senate," Windhorst wrote on Facebook. "There are just six weeks of Session left on the calendar for the spring."
Windhorst noted that if the session goes on as scheduled, it will be one of the shortest in Illinois General Assembly history.
"That is due in part to to the upcoming Primary Election scheduled for June 28, 2022," Windhorst said in the post.
He also mentioned that Gov. J.B. Pritzker's (D-IL) budget proposal that was laid out in early February for Fiscal Year 2023 still needs to be talked about.
"Several of the items he proposed have yet to be put into bill form," Windhorst wrote in the post. "I'll keep you informed on what's happening this week and throughout the remainder of the Session."
In the Feb. 27 edition of his update, Windhorst announced his 2022 survey to gather information from his constituents. The survey focuses on the potential repeal of the SAFE-T Act and seeks voters' opinions on whether or not it should be repealed.
Windhorst also wrote about a meeting he had with Reps. Dave Severin (R-Benton) and Paul Jacobs (R-Pomona) for a law enforcement roundtable with House Republican leader Jim Durkin (R-Western Springs) and dozens of local law enforcement personnel.
In February, Durkin announced his support to repeal the controversial act, which he said had created a haven for criminals in Illinois, the DuPage Policy Journal reported.
