Report: Pope County School District spent $9,901 per student in 2019-20

Spending per pupil at Pope County Community Unit School District 1 was up 19.8 percent from five years ago, according to the Southern Illinois News analysis of the latest Illinois schools report card district finances.

The Illinois State Board of Education 2019-20 report card showed the Pope County school district spent $8,268 per pupil in 2015-16. It spent $9,901 in 2019-20.

The district's enrollment fell from 532 to 501 students over the same period.

Pope County's spending in 2019-20 was 31.7 percent lower than the state average of $14,492.
