City of Metropolis City Council met Sept. 13.

Here are the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m., in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Council members were present: Alderman Al Wagner, Chuck Short, Brian Anderson, Jeremy Holley, Chad Lewis, Alderwoman Michele Longworth, Darryl Neill, Dylan Chambers, Mayor Don Canada, City Clerk Jan Adams, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell, and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

ROLL CALL:

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Chuck Short to approve the minutes of the previous meeting held on 8-23-2021 as presented;

MAYORS REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Dylan Chambers and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve the appointment of Micah Tolbert to Fire Chief at the Metropolis Fire Department;

Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Chuck Short to approve the Board of Fire and Police Commissioners promotion of Clay Childers to Captain at the Metropolis Fire Department to fill the vacancy due to the promotion of Captain Tolbert;

Mayor Canada acknowledged the retirement of Stoney Barrett as Public Works Director effective October 8th, 2021;

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Dlyan Chambers to change the road closure request from Saturday, September 11th, 2021 to Saturday, October 23rd, 2021 along Market Street between 6th and 8th Streets from 7am until 8 pm for the purpose of the Autumn Pleinire Art Festival;

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

The bid for 1601 Scott Street was awarded to Renee Neill in the amount of $2,084.72.

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to suspend the rules and place an Ordinance to adopt the 2021-2022 Appropriations Ordinance;

FINANCIAL REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Darryl Neill and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills;
