For those who want to wear the badge, state Rep. Patrick Windhorst (R-Harrisburg) said  opportunity is at the front door.

The Illinois State Police are actively recruiting candidates for two upcoming cadet courses this year.

“The Illinois State Police Merit Board is processing applications for Cadet Class 137 and 138,” Windhorst posted on Facebook, adding a link to the announcement.

The  deadline to apply and submit all documents for CC 137, which starts June 5, is Jan. 21. The deadline to apply and submit all documents for CC 138, which will begin Oct. 2, is  April 1, the ISP recruitment section posted in a tweet.

In August, the ISP announced three other cadet classes, including one starting in March. The deadline to apply for that session has passed.

CC 137 and 138 could offer both fast-track and traditional training opportunities.

Applicants must follow a rigorous process that includes meeting physical requirements, age requirements, and must have no felony convictions. The training is about six months
