Village of Niles Public Safety Committee Met July 8.

Here are the minutes provided by the committee:

I. Call to Order:

Meeting called to order at 09:00. In attendance was Trustee Strzelecki, Fire Chief Tigera, Deputy Chief Zakula, Commander Fragassi, Chief Feld, Tony Fidanza and Acting Village Manager Skeffington-Voss 

II Approval of Minutes: 

June 10, 2021 were approved

III. New Business:

1. Niles Police Department body worn cameras: Deputy Chief Zakula and Commander Fragassi made a presentation on their evaluation of body worn cameras. After a lengthy discussion, it was determined that Axon was the preferred vendor. T. Fidanza made the motion to proceed with leasing Axon body worn cameras, seconded by Chief Feld. All in attendance approved the motion.

2. First Responder Basic Peer Support: The group discussed the idea of developing a peer program for Police and Fire. The group determined that an active member might be more inclined to speak with a retired Firefighter or Police Officer when experiencing job related mental/physical issues. A motion was made to send Retired Deputy Chief T. Fidanza to this training course to assist with the development of a program.

IV. Executive Session;

Called to order at 09:30. Chief Tigera made a presentation on the filling of vacant positions within the department.

V. Items Arising from Executive Session (if needed):

Returned at 09:36 with no actions needed.
