Aledo Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education Met June 22.

CALL TO ORDER & ROLL CALL

At 6:00 p.m., President Coyle called to order the regular meeting of the Community Unit School District 201 Board of Education.

Members present: Kevin Marren, Laura Coyle, Jessica Radogno, Adina Hoover, Angela Steketee, Leah Conover

Members absent: None

Adina Hoover entered the meeting at 6:02 p.m.

Also present: Superintendent Kevin Carey, Business Manager Kimberly Anderson, and the Superintendent's Administrative Assistant Shannon Cossairt.

Pledge of Allegiance

Laura Coyle led the assembly in the Pledge of Allegiance.

CLOSED SESSION

Motion by Leah Conover, second by Mr. Marren, to enter closed session to discuss personnel issues and collective bargaining.

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Conover, Hevia, Coyle, Radogno

Nays: None.

Absent: Hoover

Motion Carried.

The Board entered closed session at 6:02 p.m.

The Board returned to open session at 7:03 p.m.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES May 18, 2021

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Mr. Hevia, to approve the minutes of the May 18, 2021, regular meeting of the Board of

Education, as presented.

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Conover, Hevia, Coyle, Radogno Hoover

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

May 18, 2021 Closed Session

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Mr. Marren, to approve the minutes of the closed session of the May 18, 2021, regular meeting of the Board of Education.

Ayes: Steketee, Marren, Conover, Hevia, Coyle, Radogno Hoover

Nays: None.

May 20, 2021

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the minutes of the May 20, 2021, special meeting of the Board of Education, as presented.

Ayes: Steketee, Hoover, Radogno, Coyle, Marren, Conover, Hevia

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

DISCUSSION/INFORMATION Planning for the 2021-2022 School Year

Superintendent Carey shared with the Board that the District is planning to have all students return to full day in person learning for the 21-22 school year. We are currently waiting for ISBE to issue guidance in regards to what guidelines will need to be followed. Students will need to provide medical certification if they are unable to attend in-person learning.

Certificate of Excellence

Kim Anderson shared with the Board that the District received the Certificate of Excellence in Financial Reporting award for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020 from the Association of School Business Officials International (ASBO). This is the 15th year the District has received the award.

Athletic Sponsor Proposal

Superintendent Carey shared with the Board an entity, KIA, would like to enter into a sponsorship with Westmont High School. Part of the Sponsorship would include a $2,000 check to the Westmont High School Athletic Department. Further details of the sponsorship are included in BoardDocs for review. The District does not have a standard for donations. This item will be brought to the July meeting for approval.

ACTION ITEMS Approval of Roof Bid for WHS

This item will not be voted on this evening.

Approval of Contract with Cashman Stahler Group of HVAC Replacement at WJHS

Motion by Ms. Radogno, second by Ms. Conover, to approve the architectural services contract with Csahman Stahler Group for the HVAC Replacement Project at WJHS as presented.

Ayes: Hevia, Coyle, Hoover, Radogno, Steketee, Marren, Conover

Nays: None.

Approval of Authorization to pay Additional June Bills for Fiscal Year 2021

Motion by Mr. Hevia, second by Mr. Marren, to authorize and direct the Treasurer to pay any additional bills received in June/July 2021 that have been budgeted for in current fiscal year.

Ayes: Coyle, Hoover, Radogno, Steketee, Marren Conover, Hevia

Nays: None.

Approval of Sunrise 2021-2022 Transportation Contract

Motion by Ms. Hoover, second by Ms. Mr. Marren, to approve the one year contract extension for special education transportation with Sunrise Southwest, LLC. For July 2021-June 2022 as presented.

Ayes: Hoover, Radogno, Steketee, Marren Conover, Hevia, Coyle

Nays: None.

Motion Carried.

Adoption of 2021-2022 Routing Business Office Resolutions

Motion by Ms. Steketee, second by Ms. Hoover, to approve the adoption of the routine 2021-2022 Business Office Resolutions as presented.

Ayes: Radogno, Steketee, Marren, Conover, Hevia, Coyle, Hoover

Nays: None.

SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Communications

Superintendent Carey gave an update on 21-22 school year registration for families. This year registration will take place online through Skyward July 30-August 6. 2021 Joint Annual Conference

Jessica Radogno, the Board's Delegate, is unable to attend the Joint Annual Conference this year. Angela Steketee will fill in for Ms. Radogno.

CUSD 201 Elementary Future Planning

The CUSD 201 Elementary Future Planning Task Force will meet for a second time on June 23, 2021. Recordings of the meetings are available on the website.

Junior High and High School Band

Superintendent Carey shared with the Board, that the current Band Director, Allison Biedermann, was scheduled to teach 5th-12th grade band in the 21-22 school year. Ms. Biedermann will be out on leave the beginning of the year. Her long term sub may be able to teach the 5th grade band for the remainder of the year. The Board would like to address the concerns over the band program and would like more information on how to make the program robust again.

Alliance Legislative Report

None at this time.

Summer School

Superintendent Carey gave an update on Summer School. Summer school in all buildings is well attended. At the end of the sessions and in the fall the District will be able to measure the progress of the students. The Board has asked for more data regarding summer school at the next meeting pertaining to how many students were invited to attend and how many actually attended.

Update on Meeting Minutes Agendas/Curriculum Updates

Committees

The Administration has selected their committees. Superintendent Carey will be reaching out to the Board and Admin to set up dates and times to meet. Laura Coyle would like to look further into the Public Relations Committee. She feels this is a priority committee for the district with all the changes.

Strategic Plan

The Admin team took feedback from the Board and will continue to meet this week and work on the strategic plan. The Admin will meet with the Board Strategic Plan Committee to review the work and then bring back to the full Board.

BOARD REPORTS

Leah Conover, SASED Representative for the District, is going to try and report each month what happens at their monthly meeting.

FUTURE MEETINGS/EVENTS

CUSD 201 Board Meeting June 22, 2021 Westmont Village Hall

The District has Administrators at the Car Shows every Thursday in Westmont.
