Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on May 17. 

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, May 9-15, 2021;

May 9, 2021

At 12:37 am, a Metropolis Sergeant stopped a silver Chevrolet Pick-up truck on US 45 & Devers Rd for defective tail lights. A computer check on the driver, Dalton H. Goins,22, Ozark, IL revealed that his driver’s license was revoked. The Sergeant also learned that Goins was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear- DUI. Goins was arrested. A search revealed him to be in possession of Meth and Cannabis wax which was not in its proper container. Goins was charged with driving while license revoked, improper transport/container of Cannabis, possession of Methamphetamine and the warrant. Goins was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance on 6th St. The victim stated that he was struck and scratched by Amanda M. Davis,35, Metropolis in front of the woman’s shelter. Offices observed injuries to the victim’s lip and neck. Davis was arrested and charged with Domestic Battery. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Sergeant stopped a green Ford on Jon at Adkins for an equipment violation. A computer check revealed that the driver, Christina L. Avila,50, Metropolis had a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for possession of Methamphetamine. A search found 3 baggies containing Cannabis. Also found was an open bottle of Vodka. Avila was arrested and charged with improper transport/container of Cannabis, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, illegal transportation of open alcohol and the warrant. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

May 10, 2021

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a green Yamaha Motorcycle fail to stop for a stop sign. A traffic stop was conducted in the 1900 block of McCrary. The motorcycle did not have valid registration and the driver stated that he did not have insurance on it. A computer check on the driver, Robert J. Marks,36, Metropolis shoed that he did not have a motorcycle endorsement on his license. A tow truck was summoned to impound the motorcycle. Marks kept interfering with the tow operator and was advised he would be arrested if he didn’t stop. Marks continued and then resisted efforts to be arrested. Marks was charged with obstructing and resisting arrest, no valid registration, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle and violation of driver’s classification. He was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing. He was released on bond.

May 11, 2021

As previously reported the investigation into Larry W. Burris,59, Metropolis is on-going. Burris was arrested again for Aggravated Battery and Criminal Sexual Abuse after another victim came forward to report that Burris had grabbed her breast after giving her an unwanted hug at the Dollar General Store. Burris was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. This investigation is still continuing.

May 12, 2021

Austin C. Burnham, 27, Metropolis was arrested in a residence in the 600 block of Metropolis St. Burnham was wanted on two McCracken County, KY warrants. The warrants were for Assault and violation of a court order. Burnham was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
