Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Apr. 13. 

From the Office of the Chief of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, April 4-10, 2021;

April 4, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 1300 block of Catherine. Upon arrival, Officers learned that Bella Janna Abdullaeva,53, Ft Worth, TX, had damaged the door and fence to the victim’s property. Abdullaeva was intoxicated and uncooperative. Abdullaeva was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property. Abdullaeva was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. 

A Metropolis Officer stopped a grey Mazda for speeding 61 mph in a 35 mph zone on 5th St near Butler. A computer check revealed that the driver, Yunxiang Zhang,50m, Chicago, had a suspended driver’s license. Zhang was charged with both offenses and released on bond.

April 5, 2021

Michael W. Howett,37, Metropolis was arrested at this residence in the 900 block of Catherine. Howett was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Brown County, IL for aggravated criminal sexual abuse. Howett was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

April 7, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a residence on Dogwood Ln for a disturbance. Upon arrival, Officers met with the victim who stated that Brian McGuire,36 Metropolis had damaged a window and had entered her residence. Officers located McGuire inside the home. McGuire was arrested and charged with criminal damage to property and criminal trespass to residence. He was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

At 10:51 pm, A Metropolis Sergeant observed a white Saturn proceeding on 5th and Metropolis St. The Saturn did not have its headlights activated. A traffic stop was conducted. A computer check revealed that the license plates were suspended and the driver, Edgar E Lira Puga, 35, Murray, KY had as suspended driver’s license. Lira Puga was charged with both offenses and released on bond. 

April 8, 2021

Shelitha A DeBerry, 34, Metropolis was arrested in the 700 block of E. 8th St. DeBerry was wanted on warrants issued by Massac County. The warrants were for Battery and Criminal damage to property. DeBerry was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
