State Sen. Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg) looks forward each year to bringing together students from across the 59th Senate District for the annual Youth Advisory Council, and his enthusiasm wasn’t dampened by having to host the event virtually this year.
Fowler took to social media to thank those who participated and note the important impact of the event.
“We had a great Youth Advisory event today with 20 schools participating,” Fowler said in a post on his official Facebook page. “Thank you for each and every student who took the time to join. Also, a huge thank you to our speakers for the day who brought their experiences to the conversation.”
The student participants in the annual event are chosen through the recommendations of school administrators and teachers, according to coverage by the Marion Republican. The intent is to provide them with valuable insights regarding leadership, state government and public policy.
Some of the guest speakers who participated in the event included Jeff McGoy, director of Exploratory Student Advisement Center for Learning Support Services at Southern Illinois University; Dale Righter, Illinois State Senate Republican Caucus chief of staff; Colleen Callahan, Illinois Department of Natural Resources director; and Patrick Barry, a lobbyist at Phelps Barry and Associates, according to Fowler’s post.
