Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 30. 

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, March 15-27, 2021;

March 11, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 500 block of Brook Ln. Upon arrival, Officers encountered Anthony F Fairfield, 41, Metropolis yelling at his wife. The wife and children were inside a van and attempting to leave. Officers learned that the disturbance was only verbal. A Metropolis Sergeant kept telling Fairfield to not approach the van. The victims were all visibly distraught and wanted to get away from him. Fairfield kept ignoring the officers’ numerous commands to stay away. On the last attempt to approach the van, a Metropolis Officer grabbed a hold of Fairfield’s arm. Fairfield tensed up and still attempted to get to the van. Fairfield was arrested and charged with Obstructing a police officer. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. 

March 15, 2021

A Metropolis Officer stopped a silver Pontiac on US 45 & Devers Rd for an equipment violation. The driver initially gave the officer false identification. The driver then gave his correct information. A computer check revealed that the driver, Joshua R. Goines,39, Grand Chain, IL had a revoked drivers license. Goines was also wanted on warrants. The warrants were issued by Massac County for driving while license suspended and obstructing identification. Goines was arrested for the warrants and also arrested for driving while license revoked and obstructing identification. He was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 16, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance at a residence in the 100 block of E. 18th St. Upon arrival, Officers found that one of the parties involved, Chelsea L. McNair,25, Metropolis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for failure to appear on a petition to revoke supervision/probation. McNair was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers had received multiple reports of a black Mustang driving around town, too fast and with a loud exhaust. Officers were staged in the area of the sports park after receiving the latest complaint. Officers observed a Mustang with loud exhaust traveling down Metropolis St. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, Dakota L. Stevens,29, Metropolis denied it was him speeding. A computer check revealed that Stevens had a suspended drivers license. Stevens was charged with the suspended drivers license and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on bond. The officers recognized the passenger as Randy L Bradley, 29, Metropolis. Bradley was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Battery. Bradley was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 19, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of W. 20th. Upon arrival, Offices observed Justin R Albany,33, Yorkville, IL holding a flashlight and a knife in his hands. After numerous commands to drop the knife, he complied. Albany resisted efforts to handcuff him. He also fought with officers attempting to put him in the patrol car. He kicked a Massac County Deputy who arrived to assist, in the leg. He also attempted to kick out the window of the squad car. He was transported to the Massac County Detention Center, where again he fought with the officers and jail staff. He attempted to flee, at which time a corrections officer used a Taser to gain control. Investigation revealed that Albany forced his way into the residence looking for his wife and kids which were not in the residence. A door jamb was busted during his entry. Albany was charged with Aggravated Battery, Resisting Arrest, Criminal Trespass to Residence and Criminal Damage to Property. 

March 20, 2021

A Metropolis Officer observed a black Ford Mustang on Old Marion Rd with a loud exhaust. The officer recognized the vehicle from a stop made on the 16th. The driver Dakota L. Stevens,29, Metropolis still had a suspended driver’s license. The plates on the Mustang came back to a differ vehicle. Stevens was charged again with driving while license suspended and improper use of registration. He was released on bond. The passenger, Heidi Leonard, 34, Golconda, IL, was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Theft. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 21, 2021

A Metropolis Officer stopped a white Hyundai for speeding 57/35 mph zone on US 45 and Pullen Rd. a compute check on the driver, Michael A. Carpenter, 37, Nashville, TN, revealed that he had a revoked driver’s license. Carpenter was charged with driving while license revoked and speeding. He was released on bond. 

March 22, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the Spence Apartments. Upon arrival, Officers met with the caller who stated that Holly L. Carlson,52, Paducah, KY had injured her mother by shoving her. Officers observed an injury to the victim’s arm. Carlson also refused to leave the apartment after being told to numerous times. Carlson was charged with Domestic Battery and Criminal Trespass to Residence. She was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Sergeant observed Donnie D Kindle,39, Karnak, at the Phillips 66 gas station on E. 5th St. The Sergeant recognized Kindle, and he was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Franklin County, IL for possession of Meth. Kindle was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 23, 2021

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a GMC pick-up traveling down W. 10th St. The sergeant recognized the driver, Don D. Worthen,59, Metropolis. The sergeant was aware that Worthen had a suspended driver’s license. A computer check confirmed the status. A traffic stop was made on W. 10th and Jon St. Worthen was charged with driving while license suspended and released on bond.

March 24, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to the 400 block of W. 10th for a juvenile problem. Upon arrival, Officers learned and viewed video of a 13-year-old boy being placed in a choke hold and being slammed into the ground. The offender was identified as Cain D. Wilkins, 20, Metropolis. The 13-year-old was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital for treatment. Wilkins was located and arrested in the 400 block of W. 12th St. Wilkins was charged with Aggravated Battery and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. 

March 25, 2021

Joseph A Reed,33, Carrier Mills, IL was arrested at the Holiday Inn Express. Reed was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Johnson County, IL DUI. Reed was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 26, 2021

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a red Dodge pick-up truck traveling down E. 5th St. The sergeant recognized the driver, Perry R. Crossland,68, Joppa. The sergeant was aware that Crossland had a revoked driver’s license. A computer check confirmed the status. A traffic stop was conducted at E. 5th and Yasoda. Crossland was charged with Driving while license revoked. He was released on bond. 

March 27, 2021

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a silver Impala driving down E. 8th St. The Sergeant recognized the driver as James H. Smith,61, Fridley, MN who he has arrested twice before for driving while license suspended. A traffic stop was conducted on Butler and 8th St. A computer check confirmed that Smith was still suspended. Smith was charged with driving while suspended and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
