Illinois State Police District 22 issued the following announcement on Mar. 25.
Illinois State Police (ISP) Director Brendan F. Kelly regretfully announces the on-duty death of ISP District 10 Trooper Todd Hanneken
On March 25, 2021, at approximately 10:42 a.m., Trooper Todd Hanneken was on-duty in his police vehicle and was involved in a single vehicle traffic crash. Trooper Hanneken was extracted from the vehicle and was taken by Airlife to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries. Medical personnel attempted life saving measures. Trooper Hanneken succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at 11:45 a.m.
“It is with profound heartache and unfathomable sadness that I inform you of the death of Trooper Todd Hanneken. We are asking the public to respectfully give consideration to the family of Trooper Hanneken and the ISP while we grieve and work through this tragedy,” stated Director Brendan Kelly.
Trooper Hanneken was 45 years old and a 20-year veteran of the Illinois State Police. He is survived by his wife Shelley, his two sons, Ben and Nick, his brother Chad, his mother Vickie and father, retired Illinois State Police Trooper Jerry Hanneken.
