Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 16. 

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, March 7-13, 2021;

March 7, 2021

While on patrol, a Metropolis Sergeant observed a white Toyota SUV. The driver made an improper left hand turn from the wrong lane on N/B Ferry St to W/B 10th St. A traffic stop was made. A computer check on the driver, Thomas E. Schmidt,41, Evansville Indiana revealed that he had a suspended driver’s license. Schmidt was charged and released on bond.

March 11, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a disturbance in the 1100 block of Catherine. The caller advised it involved Gerald Cody Moore, 29, Metropolis. Officers ere aware that Moore was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for FTA-Theft. Upon arrival, Moore attempted to flee on foot. A foot chase ensued and Moore fled into a residence in the 1100 block of Catherine. Moore was found attempting to hide in the attic. Moore was also charged with obstructing justice. Moore was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a maroon Ford Pick-up truck traveling southbound on Jon from Adkins. The Sergeant had received a call from dispatch of a possibly intoxicated driver and the vehicle matched the description. As the Sgt was turning around, the vehicle abruptly pulled into a driveway. The driver, Cassandra D. Quimbly,37, Burna KY showed signs of impairment by drugs and failed the field sobriety tests. Quimbly was arrested for DUI. A search of the vehicle turned up Meth and paraphernalia. Quimbly was also charged with the Meth and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

March 13, 2021

A Metropolis Officer stopped a Lt. Blue Volkswagon on 5th and Oak St., for no valid registration. A computer check on the driver, Christopher R.D. Green,32, Collierville, TN, revealed that he had revoked driver’s license. Green also advised that he did not have insurance. Green was charged with Driving while license revoked, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, and no valid registration. Green was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center pending bond.

March 14, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a domestic disturbance at a residence in the 400 block of W. 7th St. Upon arrival, Officers could hear a female screaming for help. They also observed that a front window had been knocked out. Officers then observed Mack a Goodman Jr., 70, Metropolis with blood on his hands and arms as well as a head injury. Officers then found the victim who also was covered in blood with numerous injuries. An ambulance was summoned and the victim was transported to the hospital for treatment. Investigation led to the arrest of Goodman for Aggravated Domestic Battery as an axe handle was used to strike the victim as well as his hands and feet. Goodman was also charged with unlawful restraint for holding her against her will for a period of time. Goodman was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

Metropolis Officers were called to a hit and run accident which occurred on Ferry near 4th St. The offending vehicle was described as a silver Nissan Maxima with KY plates. A Metropolis Officer observed the vehicle pulling into Big John’s. The driver parked, exited the vehicle and refused the officers commands to stop. The driver then entered Big John’s and the officer detained him. The officer observed signs of intoxication and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. The driver denied the crash. Officers located evidence at the scene and matched it to the drivers Nissan, as well as paint transfer from the victim’s vehicle. Claude B. Ellis,48, Benton KY, refused to cooperate. Ellis was charged with DUI, Leaving the scene of an accident and illegal transportation of open alcohol. Ellis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
