Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Mar. 2. 

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary, February 21-28, 2021;

February 23, 2021

Ashley D. Hurst,34, Metropolis was arrested in a residence in the 1000 block of E. 2nd. Hurst was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Forgery. Hurst was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

February 24, 2021

Sonja L. Sledd,38, Metropolis was arrested at a residence in the 400 block of W. 20th St. Sledd was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County, for failure to register as a sex offender. Sledd was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

February 25, 2021

While investigating a burglary, Metropolis Officers went to a residence in the 1200 block of Baynes. The Sergeants spoke to Cassandra D. Quimbly,37, Burna, KY. A consent to search of her truck found drug paraphernalia. Quimbly was also wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for Possession of a controlled substance and possession with intent to deliver. Quimbly was charged with the warrants as well as possession of drug paraphernalia. Quimbly was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center. Burglary investigation is still ongoing.

February 26, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a one vehicle crash on 5th Street near the entrance to Ft. Massac near Williams St. Investigation revealed that the driver, Lorenzo T. Clark, 39, Pembroke, Ky had been talking on his cell phone. A computer check revealed that his driver’s license was suspended and the registration plates were not valid. Clark was charged with Driving while license suspended, operation of an uninsured motor vehicle, no valid registration and use of cell phone while driving without handsfree device. Clark was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

February 27, 2021

Metropolis Officers were called to a 2-vehicle crash on 5th at Metropolis St. Upon arrival Officers observed the vehicles involved. The investigation showed that the at fault driver had signs of impairment. Melissa Ann Smith was given a set of field sobriety tests which she failed. She was arrested for DUI. The other driver stated that Smith was Northbound on Metropolis Street and failed to stop at the stop sign. Smith was charged with DUI and fail to yield from stop intersection. Smith was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center pending bond. 

February 28, 2021

A Metropolis Sergeant on patrol, observed a silver Chevrolet Impala with MN registration pass by him. The Sergeant recognized the driver and the vehicle. The Sergeant was aware that the driver, James H. Smith had a suspended license for a DUI arrest and the Sergeant arrested him for the same offense a few weeks ago. A traffic stop was conducted on 5th and Broadway. A computer check confirmed that Smith still had a suspended drivers license and the license plates were still expired. Smith was again charged with driving while suspended and expired registration. Smith was released on bond. 

A Metropolis Sergeant observed a white KIA speeding on US 45 at Mary’s Lane. The KIA was traveling 75 mph in a posted 45 mph zone. A traffic stop was conducted. A computer check revealed that the driver, Benjamin Turner,55, Metropolis had an expired driver’s license since June 2017. Turner was charged with no valid driver’s license and speeding 30 or more over the limit. Smith was released on bond. 

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
