The Rebuild Illinois plan is slated to invest millions in capital designed to keep more college-bound youths at home for their studies.

As part of the growing effort, Gov. J.B. Pritzker recently visited the College of Lake County for a ceremony highlighting the creation of a new student services building, a local Patch.com site reported.

Major upcoming projects are also planned for Southern Illinois University, McHenry College and Chicago State University.

"We watched as nearly half of our college-bound high school seniors left our state for better-funded universities out of state," Pritzker said in the report. "We won't let that happen any longer."

As part of the new plan, the governor recently released $142 million for technology centers on public university campuses across the state. The project is aimed at promoting tech innovation and job creation.

The start of the current school year was marred by a 30% decline in freshmen enrollment at Chicago State and a 13% dip at Illinois State University in Normal.
