Illinois’ Region 5, which encompasses much of the southeast corner of the state, was recently declared to have met the COVID-19 health metrics necessary for a return to Tier 1 mitigation levels.
The status change means that indoor dining can resume in that portion of the state.
The Illinois Department of Public Health posted an update to Facebook to notify the public of the change, along with a link to more detailed rules for social distancing and mitigation measures.
Bars and restaurants are still required to close at 11 p.m. every day of the week, the Department of Public Health shared on its page. They are then not permitted to reopen prior to 6 a.m. the next day.
In each room of an establishment, indoor seating capacity is restricted to 25%, but no more than 25 people are permitted to be seated in any one room under Tier 1 guidance. Additionally, patrons are still only allowed to be seated at tables.
