Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 5.

December 20, 2020

A Metropolis Officer observed a black Ford Taurus proceeding N/B on Market St. The Officer observed that the driver could not keep the vehicle in its lane and was weaving. The driver then started driving in the southbound lanes. A traffic stop was conducted and the officer detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath. The officer noted other signs of impairment. Field sobriety tests were conducted and the driver failed. Kyle M. Faulkner,31, Metropolis was charged with DUI and improper lane usage. Upon completion of processing, he was released on bond.

December 25, 2020

While on patrol, A Metropolis Sergeant observed a subject he recognized as Aimee L. Davis, 30, Metropolis on Ferry St. Davis was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was issued by Massac County for probation violation on a domestic battery charge. Upon observed the squad car, Davis fled on foot. Officers pursued after her and she gave up near Ferry and 10th. Davis was also charged with resisting/obstructing arrest. Davis was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 26, 2020

A Metropolis Officer took a stolen auto report. The victim stated that her bule Dodge Stratus was stolen and the offender was Paul P Mayotte, 26, Metropolis. A few hours later, a Massac County Deputy observed the vehicle in the Brookport area and attempted to stop it. A pursuit ensued. A Metropolis Sergeant set up spike strips on US 45 near IL Rt 145. The vehicle hit the strips and finally came to a stop at Burnham’s repair shop, on US 45. Mayotte then surrendered and was taken into custody. Massac County arrested Mayotte on numerous charges. Metropolis Police will pursue the stolen auto charges.

December 30, 2020

Metropolis dispatch received a 911 call. Dispatch could hear yelling and screaming in the background. Officers responded to the area of 18th an Scott and located a victim who stated that Jimmy W. Summers, 43, Metropolis was at a residence in the 1800 block of Scott and was armed with two handguns. Upon arrival, officers looked through the window and observed Summers inside. Officers announced themselves and knocked on the door. Summers attempted to flee out the back however, two deputies from Massac County were waiting. Summers was taken into custody. Officers were aware that Summers was wanted on warrants from a previous Metropolis incident. Officers located a 9mm handgun which was reported stoen from TN and a .22 caliber handgun with a scope. Summers was charged with the warrants and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and possession of a stolen handgun. The original victim refused to press charges. Summers was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

December 31, 2020

A Metropolis Sergeant stopped a white Toyota pick-up truck in the 700 block of W. 10th. The Sergeant detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on the driver’s breath and observed other signs of intoxication. The driver, William BF Cohoon,50, Metropolis failed the field sobriety tests. The sergeant also located an open bottle of whiskey in the vehicle. Cohoon was charged with DUI and illegal transportation of open alcohol. He was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing. Upon completion, he was released on bond.

Shiron D. Smith, 43, Metropolis was arrested on 6th and Oak. Smith was wanted on two warrants. The first warrant was issued by KY Dept of Corrections for parole violations, the second was issued by Massac County for failure to appear on a criminal trespass to property charge. Smith was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
