As Southern Illinois came under increases to already stringent COVID-19 restrictions, restaurants and bars across the region bore down for the added challenges the situation presents.
With the size of any gatherings limited to no more than 10 people, even outdoors, winter weather is not the only thing challenging the adjustments some have made to serving customers outdoors to remain in business during the summer months, WPSD Local 6 reported in November.
Melissa Parsons, the owner of Pagliai’s Pizza in Carbondale, told WPSD that, even with customers still being supportive in terms of ordering takeout, she expects to lose between 50% to 60% of revenue by not having any dine-in.
Nathan Ryder, the Contract Tracing Outreach Coordinator with Southern Seven Health Department, said that if numbers continue to rise, people should expect to see other small businesses closed once again, including barbershops and hair and nail salons, according to WPSD.
