Village of Niles Human Services Committee met Sept. 29.

Here is the minutes provided by the committee:

The following Human Services Committee members were in attendance: Committee Chair Trustee John Jekot, Fitness Center Director Carl Maniscalco, Senior Center Director Kelly Mickle, Family Services Director Darren Brown, Teen Center Program Coordinator Michael Trevino.

I. Call to order

The meeting was called to order at 10:03 am on Zoom virtual conference call by Committee Chair Trustee John Jekot.

II. Approval of Minutes

Carl Maniscalco made a motion to approve the minutes of August 18, 2020 seconded by Kelly Mickle. On voice vote all approved.

III. Old Business – None reported

IV. New Business

A. Departmental updates COVID-19

B. Department Updates (reports attached, provided by Department Head)

i. Fitness Center – Publicly thank those that supported the NFFC during the past few months

a. Discussion on creating a 501C3 foundation for support to the Human Services Departments

i. John to follow up with the Mayor and Steve regarding this idea

ii. Darren has legal documents from a prior attempt

iii. Community (non-employee) individual needed to “create” the foundation to start the process

ii. Senior Center

iii. Family Services

a. Teen Center

C. COVID-19 Service Updates – None

D. Task Forces – Senior Task Force – suspended for the time being 

Teen Task Force – Created a great addition to the Village website called “All Things Teen.” Wrapping up this week as a Task Force.

V. Open Discussion/Public Comment – None

VI. Adjournment

Motion to adjourn by Kelly Mickle and seconded by Carl Maniscalco, the meeting was adjourned at 10:41 am.
