Road crews are working on a stretch of Interstate 57 in Williamson County as part of a nine-month upgrade.
The work to be performed on the stretch from Old Illinois 13 in Marian (Mile Post 53) to Johnston City (Mile Post 59) is resulting in lane reductions. Illinois Dept. of Transportation officials told WSIL-TV 3 the road work is being done mostly at night – from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. – and will involve filling pavement holes, removing broken pavement, and repairing underpasses. Added improvements will include milling and smoothing of roadways and new pavement markings.
Completion date for the project is July 23, 2021.
Officials ask drivers to seek alternate routes if possible. Otherwise, they should slow down through the area, watch for workers and equipment, and use extreme caution in work zones.
