Bradley Village Administrator Catherine Wojnarowski faces allegations of committing domestic battery last December.
Edgar County Watchdogs published the complaint, which was filed with the Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office on Sept. 8, Complainant Eric G. Smith, of Valparaiso, Indiana, said in the allegation that he and Wojnarowski last December went to a mall event where she became intoxicated from consuming bourbon. As the couple drove home after the festivities, the complaint said, Wojnarowski dug her fingernails in Smith’s arm that was resting on the center console. Smith said he bled and was subsequently punched in the mouth by his date, who purportedly attempted to jump out of the vehicle while it was traveling approximately 60 mph.
The pair continued to date following the incident in question, as Smith claimed Wojnarowski was trying to get a divorce. He accused her of taking a few personal items from him but feared she would use her position to get him trouble. The complaint said Smith was hesitant to sign the complaint against Wojnarowski before deciding to do so.
In a Sept. 4 email to a Kankakee County Sheriff’s Office official, Smith said a Kankakee attorney told him that his fear of Wojnarowski and the possibility of her using the privilege of her office against him needed to be documented.
An attorney representing Wojnarowski told the Watchdogs the complaint was false.
Wojnarowski, who has served as Bradley village administrator since December 2017, was placed on paid administrative leave, the Daily Journal reported.
Bradley Mayor Pro Tem Mike Watson divulged to the publication that the length of the leave is open ended, adding the village is investigating Wojnarowski for a matter he declined to discuss.
“Our team is sorting out a plan to review everything,” Watson said.
