City of Metropolis City Council met June 22.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 22, 2020 in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Aldermen were present: Alderman Jeremy Holley, Don Canada, Chad Lewis, John Taylor and Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Mike Hall, Chuck Short, City Clerk Jan Adams, Mayor William McDaniel, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

MAYOR’S REPORT:

Moved by Alderman Mike Hall and second by Alderman Jeremy Holley to make a motion to accept request for road closure from Superman to 6th Street for the Southern Seven Counties Colors of Cancer Color Fun Run for the American Cancer Society on Saturday, October 3rd, 2020 from 8 am until after 1 pm;

CORPORATE COUNSEL:

The Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is launching the first round of Business Interruption Grants (BIG) by providing $60 million to businesses experiencing losses or business interruption as a result of COVID-19 related closures. DCEO will begin distributing funds to qualifying businesses in early July. Businesses must have been in operation for at least three months prior to March 2020 and meet specific annual revenue criteria. The first wave of grants will be given to small businesses that have been heavily restricted or completely shut down during the pandemic. Priority will be given to businesses located in disproportionately impacted areas (DIAs), or low-income areas that have high rates of cases. Bars and restaurants (have $20 million allotted), barbershops and salons ($10 million), and fitness centers ($10 million) these groups that are not located in DIAs are also eligible.

Chad Murray stated a Public Hearing was held at 2:00 pm today with no opposing comments. He made a recommendation to accept and pass the following motion.
