City of Metropolis City Council met July 13.

The regular meeting of the City Council, City of Metropolis, Illinois was held at 7:00 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall at 106 West 5th Street, Metropolis, Illinois. Upon roll call the following Aldermen were present: Alderman Jeremy Holley, Don Canada, Chad Lewis, John Taylor and Darryl Neill, Al Wagner, Mike Hall, Chuck Short, City Clerk Jan Adams, Mayor William McDaniel, Corporate Counsel Rick Abell and concerned citizens of Metropolis.

MAYOR’S REPORT:
The Mayor congratulated Madison Giltner on being awarded the IMUA Scholarship Program Check in the amount of $1,000 with the City matching the amount for a total of $2,000. The essay was titled Fossil Fuels: The Backbone of Power Generation and received the third highest number of votes from the scholarship program judging panel. She is a straight-A student at Massac County High School and a member of Key Club, Math Club, Spanish Club, Soccer team, Cheer team as well as a member of the National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes. She plans to attend Mississippi State University in the fall. The City has partnered with IMUA in helping provide financial assistance in support of a student’s college education and career aspirations for 20 years. Since inception in 2002, the program has awarded nearly $50,000 to 88 students from 28 different IMUA member-communities statewide.

The copiers are over 10 years old and have been worked on several times. Now some of the parts have become obsolete. Happy D. Happy quoted the copiers lower the original purchase. Mapping and Zoning will not purchase a copier at the present time due to a previous contract.

Due to the cost of concrete, riprap can be used on the apron going to the Splashpad. ACIX Construction is ahead of schedule and quoted $8,400 to prepare the area since the machinery is on site. The quote is for both labor and lining and will ratify the Change Order at the next Council meeting. The consensus was to proceed.
CORPORATE COUNSEL:
Chad Murray stated a Public Hearing was held at 2:00 pm today with no opposing comments. He stated MUTT-tropolis will not be voted on tonight but made a recommendation to accept and pass the following motion.

Corporate Counsel stated the laws have changed and it is no longer required to adopt an ordinance for Prevailing Wage.
FINANCIAL REPORT:
Moved by Alderman Jeremy Holley and second by Alderman Chad Lewis to approve the Finance Report be received and approved and that the orders be drawn on the Treasurer for the different amounts mentioned therein and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to make necessary arrangements for payment of current Salaries, Payroll and Contract bills;
