Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on July 21.
From the Office of the Director of Public Safety; Arrest Summary, July 12-18, 2020;
July 12, 2020
Metropolis Officers were called to the Dollar General on W. 10th St for a theft. Upon arrival, Officers learned that a female had placed items in her purse and left the store without paying for them. When confronted by employees the thief continued walking east. As the employee followed her for a block the thief threw the items onto the ground. Upon checking the area, Metropolis Officers located her on the railroad tracks near the Community Center. Teresa S Neimeyer,29, Metropolis was arrested for Retail Theft. She was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept for processing and released on bond.
James D Griffen,25, Metropolis was walking with her. Griffen was wanted on a warrant. The warrant was Issued by Massac County for failure to appear in court on a petition to revoke probation-resisting arrest. Griffen was arrested and lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
Metropolis Officers received a 911 call that a person was following his stolen vehicle. As officers caught up with victim, they were in the alley behind the 400 block of Butler. The offenders fled but the driver left his shoes behind. The victim gave a description of the driver and a Metropolis Sergeant observed him running a few blocks away. Quaid Al Adams,29, Brookport was taken into custody. A search found him to be in possession of a glass Meth pipe. He was taken back to the scene where he was identified as the driver, by the victim. A search of the truck found numerous items belonging to Adams inside the vehicle as well as Meth. Adams was arrested and charged with Possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug Paraphernalia. Massac County Sheriff’s Department is handling the theft investigation as it happened in their jurisdiction. Adams was lodged in the Massac County Detention Center.
July 15, 2020
Metropolis Officers were called to Acee’s Truck Stop. The manager stated that a black ford had been parked at the pumps with the driver asleep behind the wheel. The manager tried to wake him up, but the driver looked at him, rolled his eyes and went back to sleep. Upon arrival, Officers also had a hard time keeping the driver awake. Officers observed a glass Meth smoking pipe on the center console. When asked for his driver’s license, the driver, Zachary R. Minnis,25, Paducah, KY stated it was in his glove box but it was not there. He then stated in his backpack. Officers found the wallet as well as other pieces of drug paraphernalia. Minnis was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia. He was taken to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing and released on bond.
The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
