The Illinois State Board of Education Twitter page recently announced the release of a Frequently Asked Questions PDF that highlights Executive Order 2020-40, which allows schools to reopen.
"ISBE has released a FAQ for Special Education on the Transition to In-Person Instruction," the Twitter post reads. "View the FAQ at https://www.isbe.net/Documents/SpEd-FAQ-Return-to-InPerson-Instruction-2020630.pdf."
Due to COVID-19, schools have been closed since March 17. In-person instruction was suspended at that time. However, students were still learning thanks to the remote learning program.
On May 5, Gov. J.B. Pritzker began to safely reopen the state. Now, the executive order will allow in-person instruction throughout the state.
"In-person instruction is strongly encouraged in Phase 4; however, it is critical to note that this does not signify a return to pre-pandemic operations," the PDF reads. "Appropriate social distancing, face coverings, enhanced sanitation measures, and other accommodations will be necessary to ensure the safety of students, staff, and their families."
