Metropolis Police Department issued the following announcement on June 23.

From the Office of the Director of Public Safety: Arrest Summary,June 14-20, 2020;

June 14, 2020

A Metropolis Officer observed a White Chevrolet pick-up truck proceeding southbound on Pearl St. The vehicle failed to signal a left turn or stop at the stop sign at W. 5th St. A traffic stop was conducted. The driver, Ricky Lynn Howard, 41, Kevil KY, showed signs of impairment and had the odor of alcohol on his breath. Howard failed the field sobriety tests. Howard was arrested for DUI and cited for failure to stop at a stop sign. Howard was lodged at the Massac County Detention Center.

June 18, 2020

Metropolis Police were informed of a theft at Huck’s. the victim stated that she had left her phone in the bathroom and went to retrieve it. As she approached the bathroom, a female was exiting the bathroom. The victim asked if she saw a phone in there and the subject later identified as Jodi M. Smith,46, Brookport, IL denied seeing the phone. Smith then quickly left the store. The officer and victim reviewed the security video. A Metropolis Detective Sergeant located the truck Smith was seen leaving in a few blocks away. The phone was recovered from Smith. Smith was arrested for theft. Smith was transported to the Metropolis Police Dept. for processing. Smith was released on bond.

The preceding information pertains to arrests made by the Metropolis Police Department. These arrests are made on the basis of probable cause and all arrestees are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
