CITY OF ANNA: In Remembrance of Officer Shawn Knupp

City of Anna issued the following announcement on June 26.

We would like to thank Officer Shawn Knupp for his service to this community. You will be greatly missed.

Shawn Harvey Knupp, age 46 of Anna, lost his battle to cancer, Wednesday, June 24, 2020. He was born February 9, 1974 in Cape Girardeau, MO, the son of Stephen Barry and Lana Sue (Fricks) Knupp.

Shawn is survived by his two children, Carson Barry Knupp and Presley Cadence Knupp, both of Elkville; mother, Lana Knupp of Anna; father, Stephen Knupp of Goreville; siblings, Robert Jefferson Knupp of Chesterfield, MI, Leslie Lynn (Heath) Kinder of Ware, Stephen Kyle Knupp of Pocahontas; aunts and uncles; nephews; and a host of friends.

Shawn honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Gulf War. He worked for the Vienna City Police Department and the Johnson County Police Department early in his law enforcement career. Until his health forced his retirement in 2018 he was a full time police officer for the City of Anna Police Department as well as Jonesboro and Cobden.

Shawn was a member of the Anna-Jonesboro Elks Lodge #1641 and Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 in Anna and the Iron Warriors Motorcycle Club. He enjoyed riding his motorcycle whenever he could. Shawn was a loving father, he dearly loved his children and spending time with them.

A memorial visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in the Rendleman & Hileman Funeral Home in Anna. Everyone attending will be required to wear face coverings and observe social distancing guidelines. Occupancy of the Funeral Home will be limited to 50 individuals at one time. Interment will immediately follow in the Jonesboro Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the Carroll P. Foster Post #3455 of the V.F.W. in Anna and the Illinois Army National Guard Funeral Honor Team of Marion. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Shawn’s family to help with expenses.
