Village of Niles Board of Trustees will meet on Monday, June 8.

PUBLIC NOTICE

The Village of Niles will hold a public hearing online at www.vniles.com/youtube to provide interested parties an opportunity to express their views on the proposed Rebuild Illinois Public Infrastructure Grant (RIPI) project and Rebuild Illinois Economic Development Grant (RIED). Public comments can be submitted to contactniles@vniles.com or by calling in during the public comment section of the public hearing to 847-588-8090, participant code #4297909. Persons with disabilities or non-English speaking persons who wish to digitally attend the public hearing and need assistance should contact Mitch Johnson, 1000 Civic Center Drive, Niles, IL 60714, 847-588-8008 no later than June 4, 2020, Every effort will be made to make reasonable accommodations for these persons.

On or about June 30, 2020, the Village of Niles intends to apply to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for a grant from the Rebuild Illinois program. This program is funded by state funds as included in the 2019 Capital Bill. These funds are to be used for a community development project that will include the following activities: construction of a flood mitigation basin to reduce flooding, creating a public park providing an open public space with areas for outdoor markets, concerts, and other social, cultural and recreational uses. The project will also include water basin with native plantings, storage chambers beneath a festival lawn, and a new relief sewer servicing a 200-acre area in the Village. The park amenities will benefit all the residents of Niles. The total amount of Rebuild Illinois funds to be requested is $1.5 million. The Village of Niles also proposes to expend $11.9 million in non-Rebuild Illinois funds on the project. These non- Rebuild Illinois funds will be derived from the following sources: MWRDGC Stormwater Reimbursement, IEPA low interest loan, and the Village Water Fund.

Information related to this project will be available for review by appointment prior to the public hearing as of May 27, 2020, at 1000 Civic Center Drive, Niles, IL between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. The draft application information will be posted online at vniles.com. Interested residents are invited to provide comments regarding these issues either at the public hearing or by prior written statement. Written comments should be submitted to Thomas Powers, 6849 W. Touhy, Niles, IL 60714 or emailed to contactniles@vniles.com no later than June 8, 2020, in order to ensure placement of such comments in the official record of the public hearing proceedings. This project will result in no displacement of any persons or businesses.
