ANA-ILLINOIS: Say hello to Stephanie Yohannan!

Ana-Illinois issued the following announcement on May 28.

Stephanie recently graduated in 2016 with her Doctorate of Nursing Practice in Systems Leadership from Rush University Medical Center. She has completed a fellowship for Nurse Managers through the American organization of Nurse Executives. She is an active member of the American Association of Critical Care nurses for over 13 years. She is a Board of Director for Rush University Alumni and recently elected to the Board of Directors for ANA-Illinois. Stephanie was instrumental in changing how nursing orientation is conducted in the neurosciences ICU. She noticed that staff nurses were not confident when completing orientation and an increase in poor quality outcomes. She put in place extra measures and has a 3 pronged approach. The orientation includes: One on one preceptor-ship, on-line classes through the American Association of Critical Care Nurses and eight 4-hour classes on pure neurosciences didactic training. These changes in orientation lead to an increase in employee engagement and quality allowing her unit to achieve Beacon designation. Her unit is the only Beacon designated unit at Rush university medical Center out of 6 ICUs. Stephanie Yohannan is a volunteer for the Surplus project at Rush University Medical Center. As a first generation immigrant, she is an advocate and mentor for young students through La Voz Latina. She gives quarterly talks at local high schools discussing careers in healthcare and assisting young minds through the college processes and scholarship applications. Being bi-lingual has been instrumental in communication with other DACA students in navigating the professional world. In addition, she mentors and coach’s others in achieving professional goals and development. Stephanie is currently working as a Interim Associate Vice President for Behavioral Health and Emergency Services at Rush.
