MASSAC COUNTY SHERIFF OFFICE: The Massac County Sheriff's Office received a report of a suspicious person on Jefferson School Rd

Massac County Sheriff Office issued the following announcement on May 27.

On Friday May 22,2020 at around 6:00 A.M. the Massac County Sheriff's Office received a report of a suspicious person on Jefferson School Rd. Deputies responded to the area and located a 2010 Toyota Rav 4 in the 5000 block of Jefferson School Rd. A person in the Toyota Rav 4 was identified as Sean S. Woods,33, of Andrews, NC. It was learned that Woods had 3 Felony warrants for Possession of Meth out of South Carolina, along with numerous misdemeanor warrants. Woods was taken into custody without incident. Inside the vehicle, Deputies located 7 long guns and 2 handguns. Also located in the vehicle were numerous collectors coins, collectible knives, jewelry and ammunition. Deputies discovered that Woods was not the person that was called in suspicious. It was learned that Woods had a second individual with him. A search was then conducted in the area by Deputies along with Illinois State Police.

Deputies began working with the Cherokee County, NC Sheriff's Office. It was determined that the vehicle, along with the firearms, knives, coins, ammo and jewelry were stolen from a residence in Cherokee County, NC. The homeowners were away from the residence for an extended time and were not aware that they had been burglarized.

At around 3:00 P.M. on May 22, 2020 a Deputy located a person walking on US 45 North near Oak Glen Lake. The person identified himself as Austin M. Cole, 28, of Andrews, NC. Items located on Cole tied him to the recovered Toyota Rav 4. Austin Cole was taken into custody without incident.

Woods and Cole are expected to be charged by the Cherokee County, NC Sheriff's Office and extradited back to North Carolina.
