Joppa-Maple Grove Unit District 38 Board met March 31.

Here is the minutes provided by the board:

Special board meeting called to order by Kevin Castleman at 6:30 p.m.

All members present. (Danny Burnett, Stacey Reames, Peggy McNeill, Gail Stubblefield (By Phone), Kevin Castleman, Chris McGinness (By Phone), Denise Meyer)

Also present: Dr. Vickie Artman, Peter Duley, Joe Phillips, Robbie Adams, and Carol Warfield

Public Comment – Peter Duley came to speak regarding sick leave policy and share why he felt the current policy should be reversed and provided examples of other neighboring districts. Robbie Adams also spoke and discussed how sick days are important and count toward their retirement. Carol Warfield spoke stating why she

felt this benefit was important in her decision to taking a lower paying job than she could get elsewhere. Sick days were a “bonus” she can put toward retirement.

Board heard and accepted Superintendent’s report as presented. She shared days from other districts and history of past board policies. She also gave an update from the Governor’s decision to suspend in-person instruction until April 30th.

Motion by Kevin and second by Danny to make changes to Policy 5:330 by adding to grandfather the number of sick days for the current educational support staff so that the number of sick days remains the same as before the March 23rd Board Meeting with the addition of making the days accrue monthly.

All voted yes: M/C.

Motion by Peggy and second by Chris for the approval of the Intergovernmental Agreement with Goreville School District for English.

All voted yes: M/C.

Motion by Chris and second by Danny to approve the eLearning Plan as presented. All voted yes: M/C

Motion by Stacey and second by Peggy to approve the low bid for the Roof Replacement Project at the Joppa High School and Maple Grove Elementary from Vaughn’s Roofing Inc. in the amount of $98,675.

All voted yes: M/C

Motion by Stacey and second by Danny to adjourn. All voted yes: M/C.

Meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m.
