SOUTHERN SEVEN HEALTH DEPARTMENT: Southern Seven Reports First COVID-19 Case in Pope County

Southern Seven Health Department issued the following announcement on May 7.

Southern Seven Health Department confirms 11 new cases of COVID-19 in the Southern Seven region, including the first case in Pope County. The individual is a male in his 40’s. All persons are being isolated. The newly confirmed cases are as follows:

• Pope County: One male 40’s

• Pulaski County: One female 20’s, one female 40’s

• Union County: Two females 10’s, two females 20’s, one female 80’s, one male 10’s, one male 20’s, one male 30’s

Southern Seven Health Department (S7HD) reports 1 new recovered case of COVID-19 in the Southern Seven region. The individual is from Union County. Currently, there are 32 individuals from the Southern Seven region who have recovered since the start of the pandemic in the United States.

Several Union County residents who have tested positive within the last week are tied to outbreaks at workplaces outside of the southern seven region.

Southern Seven Health Department will report on the number of confirmed positive cases as more cases appear. Currently, S7HD is reporting a total of 99 cases and 1 death. The number of individuals confirmed, to date, within the Southern Seven Counties:

Alexander: 5 cases, 3 of 5 recovered, 0 deaths

Hardin: 1 case, 1 of 1 recovered, 0 deaths

Johnson: 4 cases, 3 of 4 recovered, 0 deaths

Massac: 6 cases, 3 of 6 recovered, 0 deaths

Pope: 1 case, 0 recovered, 0 deaths

Pulaski: 25 cases, 14 of 25 recovered, 0 deaths

Union: 57 cases, 8 of 57 recovered, 1 death

Southern Seven Health Department will not release specific information about individuals with COVID-19 beyond their sex and age range, unless ordered by the court.

The number of COVID-19 cases in Illinois has risen dramatically in the past week. According to the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH), in Illinois there were 2,641 new individuals with COVID-19 identified on May 7 bringing the confirmed total in the State to 70,873 individuals, with 3,111 deaths.
