Pope County Community Unit School District 1 Board of Education met March 9.
Here is the minutes provided by the board:
Meeting was called to order by President Hansen at 7:00 pm and the following members were present: Aly, Schuchardt, Wallace, Hogg, and Hansen. Walker and Simmons.
A motion to approve the agenda was made by Wallace and seconded by Aly. Roll call vote: all ayes.
Member Walker entered the meeting at 7:05 pm.
A motion was made by Shuchardt and seconded by Hogg to enter executive session for the purpose of personnel employment, litigation, and procedures. Sandy Cowsert, Editor of the Herald Enterprise, questioned the Board on the School Safety Resource Officer agenda item. President Hansen addressed Mrs. Cowsert answering her questions regarding the SRO. After some discussion, roll call vote: all ayes. Board entered executive session at 7:12 pm.
A motion was made by Hogg and seconded by Aly to return to regular session. Roll call vote: all ayes. Board returned at 8:05 pm.
A motion was made by Hogg and seconded by Wallace to hire Abby Clanton for Softball Assistant Coach. Roll call vote: all ayes.
Member Hogg asked if the baseball coach position was posted. Mr. Fritch stated the position was posted internally within both buildings. Member Walker congratulated the choir on their success at the Solo and Ensemble finishing with 50 ribbons and 2nd place in State. They are currently sitting in the Top 3 Overall State standings and will compete again in April. Member Aly added her kudos to Mrs. Laura Hosfeldt and the outstanding job she is doing with the students. Member Hogg asked where Hometown Heroes are hanging the TVs in the school. Mr. Fritch stated in the front lobby, hallway, gym lobby, and community room. Member Walker added the students could start a media club and record the morning news.
With no other business, a motion was made by Wallace and seconded by Schuchardt to adjourn the meeting until the next regular meeting to be held on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at 7:00 pm in the J.H. Hobbs Memorial Library. Roll call vote: all ayes. Meeting adjourned at 8:13 pm.
