Egyptian Community Unit School District No. 5 Board of Education met Feb. 24.

The roll call was as follows:

A motion was made by Terry Shafer, second by David Thompson to approve the minutes of the previous meeting. All vote yea.

A motion was made by David Thompson, second by Donna Ledbetter to approve the bills and payroll. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Diane Blaney, second by Terry Shafer to approve the Treasurer’s Report and Investments. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Diane Blaney, second by Terry Shafer to reimburse the Imprest Fund in the amount of $816.00. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Terry Shafer, second by Charlie Cox to authorize an amendment of the current budget (in case an amendment is necessary) and preparation of the budget for the next school year, 2020-2021. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by David Thompson, second by Diane Blaney to go into closed session at 6:20 p.m. to consider information regarding the appointment, employment, compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body or legal counsel for the public body, including hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee of the public body or against legal counsel for the public body to determine its validity, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(1); to discuss student disciplinary cases, pursuant to 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(9), and to discuss litigation, when an action against, affecting or on behalf of the particular public body has been filed and is pending before a court or administrative tribunal, or when the public body finds that an action is probable or imminent, in which case the basis for the finding shall be recorded and entered into the minutes of the closed meeting. 5 ILCS 120/2(c)(11)

A motion was made by Charlie Cox, second by David Thompson to return to the regular meeting at 8:05 p.m. All voted yea.

A motion was made by Terry Shafer, second by David Thompson to employ Bret Gowin and Carie Arbuckle for the 2020-2021 school year with a salary freeze and to pay TRS at the percentage of other certified staff. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by David Thompson, second by Diane Blaney to approve new contract for Brad Misner, Superintendent, for a term of five years from July 1, 2020 thru June 30, 2025. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Diane Blaney, second by Terry Shafer to employ Dianna Huffman, as a substitute custodian pending background check. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Charlie Cox, second by Donna Ledbetter to establish the high school graduation date as May 14, 2020. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, nay; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, nay; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, nay; David Thompson, nay. Yea votes 2, Nay votes 4. Motion failed.

A motion was made by Diane Blaney, second by Terry Shafer to establish the high school graduation date as May 15, 2020 and to establish the eighth grade promotion date as Monday, May 18, 2020. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, nay; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 5, Nay votes 1. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Terry Shafer, second by David Thompson to adopt the 2020-2021 school calendar as presented. The roll call vote was as follows: Diane Blaney, yea; Charlie Cox, yea; Jeremy Greenley, yea; Donna Ledbetter, yea; Terry Shafer, yea; David Thompson, yea. Yea votes 6, Nay votes 0. Motion carried.

A motion was made by Charlie Cox, second by David Thompson to adjourn at 8:15 p.m. All voted yea.
