City of Vienna City Council met Feb. 5.

Here is the minutes provided by the council:

The City Council of the City of Vienna met in regular session at Vienna City Hall with the following members and guest:

ELECTED/APPOINTED OFFICIALS PRESENT: 

Jon Simmons, Mayor 

Melissa Hill, Alderman 

Debbie Riddle, Alderman 

Alan Racey, Alderman 

Richard Owen, Alderman 

Austin Tuey, Alderman 

Steve Penrod, Alderman 

Aleatha Wright, City Clerk

There being a quorum, Mayor Simmons called the meeting of the Vienna City Council to order at 6:30 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENT - None

NEW BUSINESS 

Alderman Owen made a motion to Approve the Omnibus Consent Agenda consisting of the January 15, 2020 Council Meeting Minutes and the Warrant ($39,247.10). Alderman Riddle seconded the motion. All in favor, Motion carried.

Alderman Racey made a motion to Authorize and Approve the purchase of tires for public works service truck, 2002 Ford/F450. C&K Auto, $1,158.37(General Funds). Alderman Tuey seconded the motion. All in favor, motion carried.

Alderman Hill made a motion to Authorize and Approve $5,000.00 (General Funds) for the purchase of city Christmas decor. The motion was seconded by Alderman Riddle. All in favor, motion carried.

Mayor Simmons mentioned a new restaurant establishment, Los Toritos, to open soon on Redbud Road. Simmons also mentioned the Med Safe container was set up in city hall for the disposal of prescription medications for residents. Simmons said Police Chief Miller was in charge of the program.

Clerk Wright discussed with council a list of properties to be considered for a residential demolition grant. Council reviewed properties and discussed next steps. Wright also requested permission for administrative assistant, Steele, to attend a quick books training. Council gave consent.

Wright said that Chief Miller had delivered two ordinance violation letters to residents pertaining to trash/debris accumulating on their property.

Fire Chief Williams suggested the old brush truck behind city hall be bid out. Williams said it was a 1953 Dodge 3/4 ton cargo truck the city was not using. Council was in consent to place an ad to accept bids on the truck.

Phil Morris mentioned fundraisers he would be working on as well as banners on the courthouse light poles being changed out.

Alderman Penrod commented that per the recent audit report, it was suggested for the city to look at increasing water/sewer rates. Penrod questioned any upcoming expenses or projects the city may need to financially prepare for. Council had discussion. Clerk noted that 2016 was the last time the city raised water/sewer rates. The council would resume the discussion at the next scheduled meeting.

Alderman Tuey revisited the subject of purchasing tornado sirens for the city. Tuey questioned whether he could contact the vendor that had presented a quote to the city the year prior. Tuey said he felt the purchase was important for the city residents' safety. Some council members said they would support the purchase if there was a grant available to help with the cost. Tuey was told to obtain another quote entailing everything needed for the system.

Alderman Riddle requested use of the city park from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 11th for the Elk's Lodge to host a community Easter egg hunt. Council gave consent.

As there was no further business to discuss Alderman Owen made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Alderman Tuey seconded the motion. Motion carried.

Mayor Simmons declared the meeting adjourned at 7:12 p.m.
