Southern Seven Health Department issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.
The Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) released a Health Alert regarding a statewide Hepatitis A (HAV) person-to-person outbreak that has been ongoing since September 2018.
Hepatitis A is a highly contagious, vaccine-preventable liver infection. It is spread from person-to-person through ingestion of food, water, or oral contact with objects contaminated by feces of an infected individual. Transmission occurs easily among sexual and close household contacts, and persons sharing needles and non-injectable drugs.
